Peter Richard Conte (Organ, Choir Director)

Peter Richard Conte is Court Organist at the world-famous John Wanamaker Store, Philadelphia, home of the largest pipe organ in the world. He is the fourth organist to hold that position since 1911. Mr. Conte performs hundreds of recitals each year on the Grand Court's six-manual, 30,000-pipe organ, and maintains an active recital schedule throughout the Delaware Valley and the entire United States. He has performed with The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Delaware Symphony. Mr. Conte also serves as Choirmaster and Organist of St. Clement's Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, where he directs a professional choir in an ambitious music program tailored to Anglo-Catholic traditions. Prior to his St. Clement's appointment, Mr. Conte founded and directed the Choir of Men and Boys at the famed Washington Memorial Chapel, Valley Forge, where he also served as organist.

A native of Garden City, New York, Peter Richard Conte studied organ with Larry Smith and Robert Rayfield at Indiana University, Bloomington, and earned the prestigious Performer's Certificat in Organ. He is an Associate of The American Guild of Organists and has served on the executive committee of the Philadelphia Chapter. During his secondary schooling, he was Associate Organist of the Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City, NY, where he studied organ with Robert Kennedy.
