A multi-talented musician, Allen Krantz has received critical acclaim as an established solo guitarist, chamber music artist, and a gifted composer.
As a performer, he has appeared throughout the United States including appearances at Carnegie Hall. His repertoire includes the major chamber works with guitar and his diverse programs often feature his original compositions.
Maestro Charles Dutoit has conducted members of the Philadelphia Orchestra in two performances of Krantz's setting of e.e. cummings' anyone lived in a pretty how town. With flutist Deborah Carter he has recorded Summer Music, a CD for the DTR label which features two of his works for flute and guitar. Upcoming releases include his Sonata for Violin and Guitar and his String Quartet No. 1 performed by the Wister Quartet. Krantz is composer in residence for the Philadelphia based ensemble, 1807 & Friends which premiered his Little Elegy for soprano and strings and his Quartet for Guitar and Strings.
His unique partnership with Janet Eilber, celebrated principal dancer of the Martha Graham Company, has resulted in three collaborations for chamber ensemble featuring guitar and dancer: anyone lived in a pretty home town (1993); Now I Become Myself (1994); and Advice to the Players (1995), each commissioned by the Music at Gretna festival.
Allen Krantz is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory and Stanford University. He has performed and taught nationwide as an Affiliate Artist and is currently on the faculty of The New School Institute at Temple University. In addition to his concert work, Krantz has composed and produced music for documentary films and commercials. His arrangements are published by the International Music Company.
